INSPIRATION BEHIND WORD FUEL PAGES

LOVE OF JOURNALING

I have been keeping a journal since I can remember. I would fill up basic spiral-bound notebooks with my dreams, stories about my family and friends, and stickers during elementary school. I loved to create different fonts and block letters back then as well. I have always had a love for combining words and art. My journaling transitioned to more of a scrapbook type in high school. During my twenties, journaling moved to my planner packed full of to-do lists, articles that inspired me, my goals, collages, etc. Finally, in my thirties, journaling became a tool for creating the life I wanted.

I realized that along the way, I had unintentionally started using my journal/planner as a tool to shame or guilt myself. I had a pattern of setting goals or unrealistic expectations for myself. (For example- trying to lose weight by tracking what I was eating.) When I would eventually not meet my own expectations, that notebook would get tossed aside or thrown in the garbage. I would then start the search for a new, better version that would somehow turn me into my best self. Hours, and more money than I would like to admit, were spent at a book or office supply store looking for the newest and best journal or planner. Once I found it, the cycle would start over again.

I had somehow turned the healthy outlet of journaling and goal setting into an unhealthy habit. So, in 2017 I decided to stop wasting my money on guided journals and dated planners and went back to where I started- a blank spiral-bound notebook. That is was when the seed for Word Fuel Pages was planted.

During 2017, I was also going through a difficult time personally and professionally. After deciding it was time to make some changes, a book by HeatherAsh Amara, The Warrior Goddess Way, found me and changed my life. I realized how disconnected I had grown from myself. From then, my journaling took on new meaning.

I started using it to:

- Ground myself each morning
- Track my focuses, goals, and habits
- Work toward manifesting my dreams
- Record things I want to remember in the future and write to my future self
- Connect with the cycles of the moon & seasons
- Work with the elements
- Express myself creatively
- And much more!

I spent the rest of 2017 and 2018 diving deep and working on myself. I spent hours studying and reading, started getting up early to journal, and implemented a morning routine. I began creating art again and took a six-week pointed pen calligraphy course. I joined a women's group and started attending live conferences. Then, I completed a nine-month intensive program- where I learned about energy work, aligning and working with the seasons and moon cycles, animal medicine, grounding, creating rituals and ceremonies, and more. I was like a sponge that had been left out to dry for too long and was re-submerged. I wanted to propel myself down a new spiritual and self-explorative path.

During this time, I started developing and using the Word Fuel Daily Journal structure I still use each morning. This quick morning ritual helps me align with the themes and energy of the day, get centered from a place of gratitude, and clear on where I want to focus my energy for that day.

Steps 1- Moon Phase

  • Track the Lunar Cycle

Step 2- Align with Nature

  • Record the forecast for the day, when the sun rises & sets, and any seasonal details

Step 3- Practice Gratitude

  • List five or more things I am grateful for

Step 4 - Set My Intent

  • Chose one word to represent my intent for that day

Word Fuel Pages slowly evolved and now includes a Weekly Journal, Monthly Journal, Plan + Focus + Review Process to set my intentions and goals, a Habit Tracker, and other organization tools. My goal is to keep expanding the system as I grow and develop. My hope is that some part of it inspires you to put down words of your own!
