Photography: I took this picture of the majestic Live Southern Oak at Forsyth Park in Savannah, GA.
Plant Medicine: The Live Oak got its name from the fact that its foliage is evergreen, which is not the case with other oak species. When given enough room to grow, their sweeping limbs plunge toward the ground before shooting upward, creating an impressive array of branches. The majesty of an oak tree radiates an aura of calm strength. Oak trees provide strength to everyone and remind us that true strength is also gentle.
Inspiration: The eight worldly winds are pleasure & pain, praise & blame, fame & disrepute, and gain & loss. They are pairs of opposites, and it is said that one we are attracted to, the other repulsed by. The conditions of their blowing are beyond us and can’t be controlled, so if we get carried away by these winds, we can easily stray off course.
I made this Word Fuel Art piece a while ago and have been sitting with it, waiting for the right time to express why it spoke to me. I realized tonight I think it's the Libra part of me that appreciates the balance in this guidance from Buddha. It illustrates how the dualities of life are often more fleeting and less in our control than they first appear.
If we sit in harmony with them instead of creating an energetic block by resisting or trying to control them, life becomes a much happier place.
